Congratulations to SynEry researcher Timen Mooren (Biomedical MRI Lab, KU Leuven), who was awarded the Nanoscale Journal Family Oral Presentation Prize at the 16th International NanoMedicine Conference in Sydney, Australia.
Sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the prestigious award recognized Timen for his presentation on:
“Red Blood Cell-Inspired CD47 Proteoliposomes Enable Immune-Evasive Nanocarriers”
Advancing Synthetic RBC Design
Timen’s award-winning talk showcased how integrating CD47 proteins into synthetic lipid vesicles allows nanocarriers to mimic natural red blood cells—effectively sending a “don’t eat me” signal to the immune system. This mechanism is critical for extending circulation times and preventing premature clearance of artificial cell models and drug delivery systems.
A huge congratulations to Timen for representing the SynEry project on the international stage and receiving well-deserved recognition for his research!
