SynEry researcher Dr. Federico Fontana (postdoctoral researcher, Tissue Engineering Unit, IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza) represented the consortium at the SNOOPY 2025 Conference in Cres, Croatia, presenting our team’s work on peptide therapeutics and molecular modeling for bio-inspired membrane interfaces.
His talk focused on how molecular dynamics simulations are actively guiding the rational design of functional synthetic red blood cells. By studying how self-assembling peptides and membrane proteins interact with lipid bilayers at the molecular scale, Dr. Fontana demonstrated how these computational insights help optimise stable lipid formulations for artificial cell substitutes. Ultimately, this modeling approach establishes a strong theoretical and practical foundation for designing biomimetic interfaces with broad therapeutic relevance.
Integrating computational modeling alongside experimental testing continues to streamline our development of reliable artificial cell models.
